History of the Cross of Malta

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States adopted for its symbol the Cross of Malta, which has a heritage of honor, duty, sacrifice and courage that dates back to the 11th century. The Cross has its origin in the Knights of St. John, a strict order of crusaders originally founded to maintain a hospital for pilgrims journeying to the Holy Land. From this order evolved two divisions, the Knights Templar, famed for their ability to fight, and the Knights Hospitaler, humanitarians who provided for the sick and distressed.

Buddy Poppies

During World War I, the areas where the fighting took place in France was cratered and destroyed but in the spring, thousands of red poppies started growing everywhere. This inspired LTC John McCrae from the Canadian Army to write a poem called "In Flanders Fields".

CPT James Ahn Memorial Scholarship

Captain James Ahn died in 2015 during a parachute training operation while participating with his Special Forces unit. In James’ honor, we are sponsoring an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a Special Forces Veteran

With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.

As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace. Welcome to Stuttgart, Germany's VFW Post 10810.
 
VFW Post 10810 meetings take place the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Patch Barracks (near the Swabian Event Center) Building 2506, in the far-right glass atrium. Meetings are always held in-person and virtual via Zoom Video Teleconference.
